Application for Missouri Vanity License Plates
To obtain a vanity tag, you have to pay a visit to the local DMV office or mail the required documents. However, if you need to save time you may apply for the personalized and customized decals online at the MO DMV portal.

In addition, another requirement before the submission is to check the availability of the lettering. Department of Revenue offers the online service of a MO personalized license plate lookup. Besides checking, you are able to submit the order as well.
The online requests are generally proceeded and delivered within 6 weeks. The order will be delivered to the Missouri DMV Office you choose. In case, the office notifies you that the tag is not available you can apply and get a refund of $15.
Note that you must register your car and obtain the insurance certificate before placing an order.
Special Orders
In case you apply for a vanity decals with a specific icon of any group, you must provide an Emblem Use Authorization Statement (EUAS) from or the membership card.
For Military decals, you must provide documentation of your honorable discharge (or active service status, if applicable) and that you have received the relevant military achievement or decoration that qualifies you for the specific military tag.
Temporary Tags
After submitting your request, you will be issued a temporary license plate Missouri that allows you to drive on public highways. The temporary ones are only valid for 30 days. You recieve them only once per vehicle.

Configurations and Restrictions
First of all, you have to keep the character use restriction. You may not include any symbols. Only spaces, numbers and digits are available for a pickup. Take into account that you’ll get a refusal if the lettering you’ve chosen:
contains any obscene or offensive expressions.
is discriminative to any racial or ethnic group.
is already used by any other person.
In general, you can have up to six characters on your MO personalized number tags (plus one space, dash, or apostrophe if desired). However, you may not include any insignia or wheelchair symbol.
If you want any of them, the characters limit is up to four digits and letters.
